  • Condition: All locks are effectively brand new, using new cores and new pins/parts. Each lock is custom-pinned per order and tested to ensure both the operating and control keys work as expected. Look and feel - mainly cosmetic finishes - vary in color and quality, but are usually brass bodies with brushed nickel faces. Some light wear may be present from storage and assembly, but functionality is not affected.

    Description

    Unlike more traditional lock cylinders, SFIC locks - Small Format Interchangeable Core - offer a few interesting challenges for locksport enthusiasts: Available in either 6- or 7-Pin configurations, these are often more challenging by default than a garden-variety pin tumbler. They also use two distinct shear lines, one for the "Control" key (which allows the core to be removed from its housing,) and another for the "Operating" key (the
    normal
    key, if you will.) These two keys are completely distinct from one another, and the pin stacks can't be mix-and-matched - so seeing one key tells you nothing about the other, and if you pick pin stack one to a control shear line and the rest to operating, nothing happens. You have to get all the pin stacks to the
    same
    shear line for the lock to either open or move the control lug.
    SFIC cylinders and pins also tend to have tighter tolerances than other lock types. If you've gone from a dodgy Kwikset to anything properly built, imagine going one step further with the required accuracy.
    Still unimpressed? I respect that, and I think I can help. If you're looking to really make these frustrating, I can pin them with Mako M2 pins: Think spooled and serrated pins, but even more extreme, and used on both the driver pins AND the key pins. It's delightfully frustrating!
    Whichever pinning you pick, I will most likely use an A keyway (because, frankly, they are cheap and I have more of them than anything else.) If you ask nicely, though, I have a solid portion of the alphabet available in both the 6 and 7 pin varieties and I will do my best to get you your preferred flavor.
