    Description

Pearlware Miniature Childs Toy Dinner Plate
    SEAWEED FLOWERS
    Davenport Staffordshire England
    c1840
This is a gorgeous antique transferware miniature toy plate, originally part of a complete miniature childs dinner set. The tiny round dish measures 3-3/4 inches across with a flared rim.
    It is transfer printed in
    country blue on white
decorated with a tangle of seaweed and stylized flower vines, finished with ponded blue pearlware glaze.  The motif reflects the Victorian love of nature.
The pattern name is unknown, and appears to be undocumented but we call it Sweet Pea and Seaweed because of the tiny flowers and seaweed like foliage. The plate is marked with the backstamp of the maker Davenport.  It dates to the  mid-19th century in the Staffordshire England potting region.
It is in great condition with no chips cracks or repairs. Minor typical firing imperfections. Children's transferware of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after. Flower lovers and flow blue transferware collectors will adore the tiny dish, offered as is. Displays as perfect.
